MISSIONS

We are supporting Paul & Fabiola Drumm's Mission Assignmentto Asia.  We have pledged $10,000 to this goal.

ONE MILLION HEALTH KITS FOR HAITI
The UMCOR Depot in Utah has already sent 23,000 health kits to Haiti, depleting the supply on hand.  The California Nevada United Methodist Conference Volunteers in Mission Commission has set  a goal of 1 million health kits for Haiti.  339 health kits were made and shipped from Eureka First.  More than $3000 in donations were also made.

Eureka First United Methodist Church participated in the first round up of kits by transporting 500 kits from the North Coast to Redding. At Redding the number grew to 1200 from the Shasta District to Woodland where a truck loaded with kits from throughout the conference will take them to the Depot in Salt Lake City.

UMCOR requests that the following NEW items be placed in a sealed one-gallon plastic bag.
1 hand towel (15” x 25” up to 17” x 27”. No kitchen towels.
1 washcloth
1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, no child-size brushes)
6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
$1.00 to purchase toothpaste
(NOTE: Toothpaste is purchased in bulk to be added to health kits to ensure that the product does not expire before they are sent.)
Because the emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations and strict rules govern product entry into international countries, UMCOR requires that the kits contain only the requested items – nothing more.
Another way to give is to bring some of the items on the list in bulk and we will assemble the kits at church or send them on for volunteers to assemble at the depot in Utah

Drumm Stick Sundays began Oct. 25th.  Paul and Fabiola Drumm are preparing for overseas mission work.  To raise funds we'll be selling "Drumm" sticks (ice  cream cones) one Sunday a month.

Our Missions Commission chooses a mission (local, national or world-wide) for focus each month.  A newsletter article and a talk in worship help to teach about the project and there is opportunity for support through prayers, service or gifts.

Mission Pennies:  All mission pennies received in 2009 will be used to support Betty Chinn's mission to serve the people of Eureka who need food, clothing, a shower and a friend.

FOOD DONATIONS NEEDED:  Food placed in the basket in the entry will be delivered to the Food Band or the Rescue Mission.  In light of the food shortages affecting the hungry people around the world The Missions Commission has set a goal of collecting 100 pounds of food per month.
